If you use the word “shocking” in a headline about newspaper layoffs, there better be a cattle prod involved.

Will there be any editorial cartoonists left in the McClatchy chain? Does Gannett have any cartoonists left?

    How is the right question.

I sure hope it wasn't a desk person trying to be clever, combining Calipari and Kentucky. That would be worse.

"Sands of the Kalipari" is an excellent film.

    Susannah York, mmm...

Honestly, it's not that hard to figure out what happened.

    1. Random page designer in Timbuktu doesn't know much about Kentucky basketball. Typo is inserted.
    2. It's Sunday evening in Lexington, so almost everyone is off. The page proofs are sent to an editor in Lexington - probably in news since this was a news page - who forgets/neglects to check.
    3. Voila! Embarrassment.

What's more, the headline - even if Calipari's name were spelled correctly - is a bad headline. It's written as if the amount of the buyout is the fulcrum of the decision-making (which, without reading the commentary, I doubt is the point). ... Like, maybe a thirty-TWO million dollar buyout would be OK, but certainly not a thirty-THREE million dollar buyout.

Terrible mistake. And K doesn't appear in Italian names anyway......
