CNN still calling it a "collision," which is incorrect.

 

I'm intrigued that Merriam-Webster and Cambridge appear to differ on the definition of the word. Cambridge defines collision as the "violent coming together or two or more moving objects." M-W's definition does not indicate that both objects have to be moving at the time of impact.

I know, Twitter thread, the horror, the horror, etc. Still, some points worth considering should you hear someone blaming this on the state of American infrastructure (which it very much is out here, as well as being held up as another example of the rot at the heart of the US and Western decadence in general). Even a properly built, fully functional bridge isn't made to tank 116k tons worth of direct hit.
