I don’t think Jones likes Cal.

Oh I know Jones isn't connected to UK, and he probably phrased it that way on purpose. Still. Calipari is an alpha male who hasn't won shit in a decade but apparently the good ol' boys can't buy him out (yet). I can't see anyone there being very happy the marriage is still going.

Immediately after Kentucky lost, there was considerable media speculation that this was it for Calipari. Like it was gonna happen. Like a $33,000,000 buyout was being collected.
It's Kentucky, not Texas. Coal barons are evil people who don't care how many of their employees have to die. But they don't have the means to do this at the drop of a hard hat.

Bet Kelly Craft and her husband Joe (the two biggest whales for UK) are super stoked they spent $10 million of their own money last year to not get her nominated for governor.

Translation: He's on the clock. No matter what happens, this message won't be delivered a year from now. He'll either be back in the good graces or he'll be whacked.
If you put out a statement that essentially says, "After careful evaluation of our program, we have decided we're not firing the coach," you're essentially saying, "We thought about it. We tried to come up with the cash to make him go away. We tried to make him so miserable that he'd accept a lesser sum to go away. But we couldn't quite do it."

I told a friend, an Oklahoma State grad, this rumor today and she exhaled and went speechless for 30 seconds.

Just reading all of the comments from VT fans on the Kenny Brooks to Kentucky situation is a hard reminder not to get attached to any players in college sports. It's a year-to-year deal. It's going to suck to see Georgia Amoore in a Kentucky uniform next season, but that's reality. She came to play for Brooks, and she's not going to spend her final year toiling at a completely rebuilding program. (She also may just go to the WNBA.) It's reality. I'm glad NIL has given some power to the athletes, but it's also made college sports a year-to-year mercenary business. There is no "building for next year" because it's likely more than 50 percent of your roster to going to turn over anyway. The "way too early" top 25s released after the end of the season were already useless, even more so now.
