For the first two years of the Biden Administration the Dems held all the power and yet they failed to codify anything relating to the power of the President. Thus, we get the government we deserve. And the profit taking.

That's more than a little unfair. So much of what Trump did was completely unprecedented, and the D's were dragging their feet and being uncooperative in those two years. There was no way for them to expect that the Republicans would completely fold and abdicate any controls on the guy, refuse to investigate, and then acquit him in the face of damning evidence. The Republican party as a whole used him to ram through what they wanted, putting in Neal Gorsuch etc. McConnell was always a bare knuckles power pol, but no one expected him to go to the extremes that he did either.
