Utah State is becoming what Arkansas State was in football not too long ago. Show up, win big enough, get out.

There are some schools who go and hire the best coach available - and there are schools that seek some tenuous "fit" (geographic or a previous assistant). Honestly, hire the best coach available. All recruiting is national now. You get players where you can. And maybe donors like the "warm and fuzzy" stuff, but they need to realize any coach will bail on you if they get a good enough offer.

Shaky blanket statement. While I do agree that the world's a smaller place thanks to technology and such, in some places, the local and regional knowledge can give you a major advantage. Sure, it can be learned eventually virtually anywhere, but given how long many coaching stints are, by the time you become that knowledgeable – if you really get there – it may already be too late.

I guess it depends if you are taking over a program because the coach got dumped or a coach who had the program rolling getting a bigger job.

    1983: #6 NC State over #1 Virginia

Charleston lost a pretty good coach and may have stumbled into an upgrade.

Preston Spradlin to JMU. I have no idea who this man is.

Morehead State guy apparently. I had never heard the name. Won ≥ 22 games in each of the past four seasons. Took over midseason for the disastrous Sean Woods several years ago.
Curious why his name hadn't been on the big-time radar sooner.

He was in "Godfather II" and "Apocalypse Now".

He's been out of the game for a while but I suspect his recruiting techniques may need some work:

... Especially now in the days of the transfer portal:

Yeah, but if you can't use Fort Collins to recruit good players, you're doing it wrong.

Loyola (Maryland) hires Josh Loeffler, Cincinnati assistant who was very successful in DIII at Johns Hopkins.
