I found Andrew Dice Clay on an HBO comedy special (Dangerfield's?). All these decades later I recognize he's a crass foul jackass. But dirty nursery rhymes were funny as shit back then.

Pretty sure that’s how I discovered Barry Crimmins. I know it’s how I discovered Garry Shandling and Larry Miller.

Leviathan. Shameless ripoff of Alien and the Thing.....but strong cast featuring Peter Weller, Richard Crenna, Ernie Hudson, Daniel Stern, Hector Elizondo and the absurdly beautiful and now obscure Amanda Pays. Score by Jerry Goldsmith who did Alien....and from the writers of Blade Runner and Die Hard.

Part of that "mysterious underwater monster" genre of the late 80s. The Abyss did it well. Leviathan and Deep Star Six, probably not as well.

OK, The Replacements is on now.

And the cheerleaders somehow went on strike and had to be replaced along with the players? WTF?

Against All Odds. Pulpy silliness with pre-insanity James Woods, pre-Dude Jeff Bridges and an insanely beautiful Rachel Ward, who, if I recall correctly and why wouldn't I, got down and dirty with Jeff Bridges in a way that blew my still-developing mind.

Of all the things that don't make sense in that movie, that was the one that got you?

I can still recite his version of "Hickory Dickory Dock," which is a wonderful example of the weirdness of my memory.

Speaking of Dice Clay, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane is a surprisingly not-terrible movie. It should be awful. Parts of it are cheesy and awful. It was a flop in every sense of the word. And yet it's got something to it that's kind of stupid fun if you ever happen to catch it on cable or want a bad movie night experience.
Of course, I remember seeing it once about 20 years ago and thinking that, so I might rewatch it now and think it lives up to its infamous reputation.

Holy fuck, that was a great bad movie. It was on as I was making out on the couch with my girlfriend #BYHTheStud. When Kurt Loder said the line about how the late Bobby Black's family wanted privacy before he mentioned where the funeral would be held, I laughed out loud. I was used to that happening in reverse. :D

In the Andrew Dice Clay Department, he was very underrated in “Casual Sex?”, the Leah Thompson/Victoria Jackson ‘80s summer sex romp.

He played the out-of-his-depth East Coast meathead to perfection, and actually showed a little range on top of it all.

He was also good in a bit part in “One Night At McCool’s,” which is a legit good movie.
