Ippei Mizuhara, Shohei Ohtani's longtime interpreter and confidant, has been charged with bank fraud after it was discovered he transferred more than $16M from Ohtani's account to an alleged illegal sports book, federal authorities announced in L.A. court.

Ohtani is either the dumbest fuck alive, or this guy is taking the fall. Or both.

Like I said, affinity fraud. Lots of people who were by no means dumb got taken by Madoff. But once trust is given, people in general are loath to take it back.

Ohtani's accountant was unavailable for comment.

How crappy of a gambler are you to blow through $16M?

And as my friend said, with all that money you'd think Ippei could have got a better haircut.

Why didn’t the Astros just forfeit today?

    From a story on CBSSports.com ...

Between December 2021 and January 2024, Mizuhara allegedly placed about 19,000 wages, averaging 25 a day. Those bets came to a net loss of more than $40 million, according to the criminal complaint.

Miz only met Ohtani in like 2018, right? And in 3 years, he has access to $40 million?

As a CPA, I can only ask, WHAT IN THE HOLY FUCK IS GOING ON HERE??

These two were inseparable, with Mizuhara serving as his enforcer. It defies all logic that you could be with someone 24/7 and NOT realize he's betting 25 times a day. At some point, don't you look over at him being on the phone or fiddling on the phone all the time and wonder what's going on?
