I was in Chicago watching an NBA finals game (the Knicks were in the finals against Houston!). ... I was really pissed off when they went to the split screen and interupted the game, because in those days, there was no hi-def TV and the split screen effectively made it so that you couldn't follow the basketball game well.

I was in 8th grade during the chase and trial. I was watching the NBA Finals during the chase.

The acquittal happened during my freshman year. We had open campus for lunches, so my friends and I ducked into a gas station for the verdict.

Now that you mention it, I probably remember more about that than the other two.

    2. OJ chase
    3. Challenger (we were in fourth grade when a teacher ran into our room and told us to put on the television).
    4. Start of the first Gulf War (Also remember listening to Larry King late one night when they announced Iraq's invasion of Kuwait).

The thing about that is, we knew when the landing was going to be, and as soon as they landed we knew when the moonwalk would be.

Being that it was approaching 11 p.m. EDT on a Sunday when Armstrong made his small step/giant leap, I'm guessing most of the answers would be "At home" or "At a get-together with friends."

SPECIAL CATEGORIES: Watergate, Crash of 2008 and COVID were obviously as momentous as the other events, but they unfolded over a number of weeks or months so their impact was dissipated. The Cuban Missile Crisis also took a couple weeks to play out -- it didn't just happen on one day.
