SNL's Continued Downward Spiral Thread

Its amazing to me how good SNL has been this year - maybe not a single breakout star or character (was the last SNL bit to inspire a movie McGruber? Really?) But every sketch seems fresh in a way that you really don't know where it is going. As opposed to the "talk show" sketches which are usually instant tune-outs. Even a rare Michael Longfellow appearance - the duvet thing made me laugh. Glad they gave Trump and Biden a week off.

Not a movie, but David S. Pumpkins did have that spinoff special.

Yeah, this has been a good season with a few exceptions. The younger players (those around 5 years or less) have done a strong job carving out their own niches.

Beyond Kenan (21!), Mikey (8) and Heidi (7), none of the sketch players have been around more than five years, which I think has brought some freshness to things.

Speaking of which, it's wild to go through Kenan's career and see all the cast members he's welcomed and outlasted -- a lot of them among the upper echelon of SNL all-timers. In Kenan's first season as a repertory player, the featured crew was Hader, Samberg, Sudeikis and Wiig.

I’ve been away and havens seen the Ryan Gosling episode (or if there was a new one last night). But agree. Been a good season thus far.

And also agree on perhaps a bit less political stuff, at least in the short run. This campaign is going to be so long that they’ll go on summer break and come back and there’s still gonna be a few months before the election.

They don’t have a good Biden. And the trump guy is almost TOO spot on.

I'm kind of surprised they haven't done an RFK jr. sketch - a lot of meat on that bone to chew on.

That tells me he's not even a blip on the radar. If you're not perpetually online, you probably have no idea what that idiot is trying to do.

After Dua Lipa double duty this weekend, some pretty good heavy hitters to close out the season.

Four SNL alumni hosting in one season. They're all great in their own ways, but a little surprised they went that far in a single season.

I assume the writers strike limited the availablity for major names to be available when movies/shows got pushed back during the season

That was a pretty weak cold open.

It seemed like a first sketch after the monologue, not a cold open.

Yeah, this is not off to a promising start. I get not wanting to go to the Trump trial well, but anything would have been better than that.
