The Grizzlies would be supported in Vancouver.

The issue would be finding an owner willing and capable of spending what it would take to get a franchise and build a new arena. Good luck finding the land for that in and around downtown.

I would agree with that. But the Canadian dollar is worth about 73 cents to one U.S. dollar. The NBA salary cap is 136 million dollars U.S. That is the equivalent of about 186 million Canadian dollars. So the team would have to come up with 50 million extra dollars to make payroll. In a market about the size of Portland or Minneapolis. That would be tough to do.

They couldn't play in the Canucks' arena?

The Canucks arena is 30 years old and needs a lot of work. Someone spending 4 billion to get a team is not going to want to be a tenant. The Canucks owners do not have the money to purchase an NBA team.

I don't really follow the Raptors but I suspect if MLSE hadn't purchased the team they might have moved on too.

ISTR the Canucks owners were the ones who got the old Grizzlies franchise and then sold it off? My memory is also becoming Swiss cheese-like.

Big Country were Scottish, not Canadian. I know there are heritage connections there but this one whooshed me.

I loved me some Big Country back in the day.
