More like reversion to the mean. But at least Saros has assured the Preds get absolutely jack shit for him on the trade market.

So a week later may playoff hockey can be weird rings true. The Avs have continued with those overall very good performances (pretty much dominating at this point) but added sudden solid goaltending to the mix, the regular season seems like a distant past, and it all definitely has gotten better. For at least the last three games it smells of 2022 again (who knows when that playoff hockey is weird will change courses). But if the Avalanche are doing this against what seemed to be a solid D and definitely a good goalie, I suppose the sky is the limit.

The digital ads on the boards are terribly distracting. They totally take away from the action on the ice. Horrible.

It took me a while to figure out what bothered me about them, other than the whole concept. It's that the lines don't go all the way up the boards. If they fixed that (and got rid of the animated ones), it would go a long way to avoid the uncanny valley.

Meh. Mercy killing. Glad to see Lapierre score and the young guys get a taste, but that series was over before it started, and we all knew it.

What I liked as a Rangers fan. ... was they stayed within themselves. Washington needed to muddy the games, and the Rangers just took it period by period, game by game and didn't beat themselves.

Thoughts: 1) Ovechkin was terrible. There was little compete there, he was standing around and not even moving to get pucks. 2) The next series for the Rangers is going to be tougher, obviously. I hope they are prepared. Carolina is beatable (if it is them, I shouldn't get ahead of myself maybe), but the Rangers are going to need to work harder than they had to in this series. 3) I have never liked Oshie. But I respected how he downplayed the Panarin hit and said he thought it was great. 4) I felt bad for John Carlson. He played really well, he just can't play all five positons at once. 5) Tom Wilson is a fucking head case. But you don't get that upset by his antics when you see your team on the way to a sweep. It made him kind of pathetic.

Can't disagree with the Ovechkin part. And maybe there's a Game 5 at least if he doesn't turn the puck over for that shorthanded 3-on-1 in Game 2. He was a liability, which is not what you want to say about your captain. Wilson needs others around him to be good for him to be good. He's not skilled enough to carry you but skilled enough to take advantage when others draw attention away from him. Carlson was a workhorse but he can't be asked to carry that sort of workload next year.

I think Oshie retires this offseason. He lingered on the ice stick-tapping fans and was the last one off last night. He's going to be 38 in December and the injury history is real.

Thought it might happen ... Seattle Kraken fired head coach Dave Hakstol today. Wonder if Ron Francis pursues Rod Brind'Amour again?

Not too surprised that they fired Hakstol, although it wasn’t he who let a lot of the team’s quality depth leave after last season.

I would think Francis has a specific replacement in mind, but if it’s Brind’Amour, he might be busy for a while with the way the’Canes are playing.

Dallas has parked the bus in this third period but it has been really entertaining. In just waiting for Vegas to get caught in a counterattack and go down two goals.

Stayed up late to watch the finish. Glad I did.
Tonight is Game 5 for Boston/Toronto. Last I heard, Matthews' status is uncertain.
Wonder if Sheldon Keefe gets canned tomorrow.
