What has changed institutionally in America since WWII? The emergence of the United States as a global empire and a massive military power. When we pursue imperial military policies, either directly or through financial support, people opposed to those policies will object, especially when those policies are obviously oppressive. Whether or not one considers the Israeli incursion into Gaza to be justified, it is obviously an oppressive act.
Different forces are in play on campuses regarding Gaza. Leftist student protests are offset by pressure from power brokers (like the speaker of the House) on administrations to quell "antisemitism."
I was just reading a WaPo story today on Ro Khanna's visit to Wisconsin as a Biden campaign surrogate. He's at odds with Biden on Gaza policy but trying to strengthen Biden's coalition against Trump, saying, "You might not like Biden today, but I guarantee Trump will be worse." (Actually, during my voting life my choices for president have almost always been between "bad" or "worse.")
BTW. Charlie Sykes is a scumbag, a longtime AM radio squawker who was suddenly "shocked," "shocked" that "the Right lost its mind." And like Trump, Gingrich et al., he is no stranger to philandering in his personal life.

I didn't even participate in graduation when I got my bachelors. The only reason I did when I got my masters is my wife made me.

I didn't go to either one. The one for my masters was small and didn't seem to be worth it. When I got my BA, I flew down to visit my family rather than just have my father fly up to see the ceremony.

I did my department graduation for my bachelors. I was giving a final the day of my credential graduation.

Although the biggest factor was I didn't want to, another reason I didn't for my bachelors was I completed my graduation requirements in July, and they said I could come back and walk in December.

If we have an SJ outting that I can actually attend I'll give everyone my epic saga to get me diploma. It's along the lines of grad requirements had to be finished later.

Sure, that's textbook. That's why it is also textbook not to react to such attacks by making broad indiscriminate reprisal attacks on that civilian population, because all it does is change the neutral people into sympathizers and sympathizers into actively assisting or becoming combatants.

When I say "textbook", I'm referring to the manuals that the Pentagon has spent millions on researching and developing. It's not as though the dynamics of how guerilla war and terrorism spread are not well understood. The IDF simply said "Fuck it, nits make lice. If we kill them all there won't be any more Hamas" or something closely adjacent to it.

Comrades in the liberated zone haven't gotten the memo about the importance of local news.

Missouri mailed me mine and the damn postman twisted it into my mail box.
Package was clearly labeled "Diploma enclosed. Do not bend."

Which is a tactic that was used with some success against Apartheid South Africa.

Let's see how these protesters - or better yet, their check-writing dads - like it when the schools say, "OK, we'll divest from these endowments. Your tuition just doubled for next year."

It's an analogy that doesn't hold up for a variety of reasons. There wasn't an ongoing war, SA wasn't a close strategic ally, there weren't a lot of donors supporting SA, today isn't an obvious case of a racist political system.

The divest argument is just something for them to tie onto to give some meaning.
