Wasn't one of the "smoking guns" of Watergate when it was discovered Nixon's re-election campaign funded the break-in?

If I never saw another post by Josh Marshall I'd be fine with that.

Look, you're not wrong. I don't gamble, other than buying a lottery ticket when I cross the state line, once or twice a year. There are people who piss away a ton of money gambling. The thing is that they're doing it anyway, now. There a former horse race track ten minutes from my house that has betting on dog races elsewhere. It also has electronic bingo machines. The place sucks a ton of money from the people who can least afford to lose it.

All I'm saying is don't shit on Alabama over it, it isn't fair. There's nothing groundbreaking about a state having legal gambling. If we get a lottery, there will be I think two remaining states who don't have one. Lord knows how much money is bet on football here now, and every dime of it goes through a bookie or is bet illegally online somehow.

Here's an excellent at a glance look at it. Note how many times you read "Alabama does not have..." on items they consider normal and common.

Mostly I bitch about it because the process in the lege is so obviously corrupt. You've got Senators working for the Poarch Creek Indians. You have others who are taking money from the Mississippi casino lobby. Everyone is trying to bend it to their favored contributor. I've watched these bills fail for thirty years because they couldn't figure out a split that made everyone happy enough to pass the bill.

Here's a great column. Lays it out far better than I ever could.

Actually, I rec this one hard, it's a fun and enlightening trip through what goes on here by a guy who has been writing about it for twenty years.

Is it a surprise that Sen. Wadsack voted no and Sen. Bolick voted yes?

I'd rather Joe be packing something else. Such as SCOTUS.
