I agree it's a two-way street and every situation is different. But imagine if the NFL had a system of one-year contracts and a transfer portal instead of the current system.

    And no salary cap.

It's a mixed bag. The G5's get to shop from a deep pool of guys who were somewhere in the P5/P4 and not playing. They likely take in more of those guys than they lose.

The thing is that their best players are subject to getting picked off and taken away.

One way to add some structure to NIL/portal - if you receive an NIL deal - you can't enter the portal for one year from the date of first payment. Unless, your coach leaves. Or simplify it and just limit NIL deals to one year - beginning Feb. 1 - most coaching moves have been completed by then.

Don't know how mixed that bag is in that the system is ostensibly unfair with no benefit to the G5 that took a chance and hit on a kid.

The P4 gets to pluck that kid and the G5 school can suck rocks. Y'all can decide if that's fair.

I'm a G5 guy. My team lost its best DB and edge rusher to the portal last season. (In fairness, the DB was a grad transfer who went to a top program. Much less objectionable than the rest.) This season we lost both of our starting CB's on the last day to enter the portal. B.J. Mays went to aTm. You can safely assume my feelings on that without my ranting for a couple of paragraphs.

The other side of that is that the same thing used to happen without the G5's being able to recruit hundreds of restless P5 kids who are looking for a better chance to get PT instead of being third or fourth on the depth chart. You take your breaks where you find them.

And yet still more respectable than the previous sponsor.

All I care about is whether the Pop-Tart Bowl is returning.

I, for one, want a swag bag from the Gin & Juice Bowl.
