I think if you read my post on academic freedom, that's...pretty clear.

    I'm an independent.

I vote for Democrats 80-85% of the time. In presidential races I voted for a Republican once: Bush in 2000. I did not like Gore. I regret that vote.

George Wallace, Theodore Bilbo and Orval Faubus were Democrats too.

Except in those cases when you disagree with what's being taught.

I'd also ask this: If you think the current unrest on American college campuses has to do with some unique new deformity of "progressivism" or "liberalism," what accounts for college protest in 1964 or 1968 or 1977 or the 1980s or the 1990s or the 2000s?

Not accurate. Maybe what I wrote is poorly worded but feel free to read what I wrote again.

I support academic freedom. Explore intersectionality. Explore oppressor/oppressed power dynamics. (The latter, incidentally, is deeply embedded into the teachings of the OT and NT.) To explore, and possibly even integrate, those ideas is, to me, liberalism.

Progressivism is much closer to a religion, in my view. And as such, it peaches adoption and installation of its values often to the rejection of others. When I suggest maybe we don’t need academic freedom, I am being facetious, because I don’t think most university progressives practice academic freedom.

Now we can add progressivism to the list of “left” things he considers a religion.

    What a wet end.

Israel orders 100,000 civilians to leave Rafah, says it will operate with ‘extreme force’

"Israel’s military on Monday ordered about 100,000 civilians in parts of Rafah to evacuate “immediately” to a humanitarian zone, saying it will operate with “extreme force” in those areas. Israel’s determination to invade Rafah remains a sticking point in cease-fire negotiations, which appear to have broken down."

So where are a hundred thousand people supposed to go to find safety and shelter, when they evacuated to this area on Israel's direction after the areas they lived in were flattened?

    Let's hope.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Hamas announced Monday it has accepted an Egyptian-Qatari proposal for a cease-fire to halt the seven-month-long war with Israel in Gaza, hours after Israel ordered about 100,000 Palestinians to begin evacuating from the southern city of Rafah, signaling that a long-promised ground invasion there could be imminent.

There was no immediate comment from Israel on the deal, and details of the proposal have not yet been released. In recent days, Egyptian and Hamas officials have said the cease-fire would take place in a series of stages during which Hamas would release hostages it is holding in exchange for Israeli troop pullbacks from Gaza.

It is not clear whether the deal will meet Hamas’ key demand of bringing about an end to the war and complete Israeli withdrawal.

Yup. I'm a little surprised, I thought Hamas would fuck its own people by forcing Israel to go into Rafah, but the pressure had an effect.

It still doesn't get Hamas out of there, but it buys Hamas time, which is good for them. And it gives Israel an out. ... they did NOT want to destroy Rafah at this point, and still not have the remaining hostages or Hamas gone for it.
