I remember watching Falloon in the world juniors in whatever year. My father for whatever reason kept calling him Pat Falldoon, the first ever Scottish superstar. The name has stuck in his house ever since.

Went down a rabbit hole and looked up how many former #1 overall picks have played for the Sharks. By my count there are four, though obviously none were drafted by the team.

Anybody want to take a shot? Two of them were very important players when in San Jose, the other two were at the tail end of their careers.

Joe Thornton immediately came to mind, but not a clue off the top of my head about the other three.

Yup. I am not good at stuff like this, but Joe Thornton has to be one. I don't know if he wsa a #1 overall, but along those lines, I'll also guess Owen Nolan.

Thornton (‘97) and Nolan (‘90) are the two who were big names at the time.

The others were picked in ‘83 and ‘86. The former was the first to be picked right out of high school (Mount St. Charles) and the latter was the first to be picked right out college (MSU I think).

A blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. The crazy thing is that I was watching very little NHL hockey during that period -- I really fell away from it -- but for some reason he popped into my head.

I would think Brian Lawton was the high school kid.
EDIT: Just came to me ... Joe Murphy for the college guy?

Several years ago, we drove up to San Jose on a Friday for a Saturday night Ducks-Sharks game. The Ducks were playing at home that Friday night. When we got to the hotel, I took a shot and asked the bellhop if he knew a place nearby that might have out-of-town hockey games on TV. It was a remote chance because the bellhop was a Filipino who looked and sounded like he hadn't been in the U.S. very long. Surprise. He said, "Yeah, Owen Nolan owns a bar up the street called Britannia that has all the game. But there is MMA tonight, so that might be on all of the TVs."

The Brit is a staple in San Jose. I didn't realize Nolan owned it.
