It certainly sounds fishy, especially with the last-play controversy.

He's 6-6 and had a stint in the Air Force, so it's not like it's a small dude trying to throw as hard as he can. He's going to find out he doesn't need to throw 102.

Maybe. Not every young pitcher has the self-discipline to do that. If they can keep both guys healthy, the Pirates might have something to build around with Skenes and Jones, but if is doing some heavy lifting there.

Indeed. Everyone who throws 102 stays healthy. Right?

The Pirates need hitting. All the pitching's not going to help if they can't score.

Skenes first “welcome to the bigs” moment - an ump checked his hands and glove for a foreign substance after his first inning.

Did he handle it better than Max Scherzer?

The guy is pulled with a 6-1 lead, bullpen starts walking batters left and right. Now, it's 6-6 in a rain delay.

Pirates took a 6-1 lead on Paul Skenes Day. He got pulled after 4+ and 82 pitches. The Pirates bullpen then proceeded to walk in 4 runs in the top of 5th. Cubs tied it on an infield single, then the tarp came out. It's a 6-6, unofficial game and Skenes gets a No Decision and a 6.75 ERA.

    Because baseball.
