    Been in NYC 20 years and attended my first Rangers game tonight with a buddy who had an extra ticket at the last-minute. It was fun, even with the Rangers looking absolutely horrible. Gretzky was in attendance and got a huge ovation. With Rangers up 1-0, my friend kept muttering, "shut up, shut up, shut the fuck up," to the guy behind us who was telling his girlfriend/date about how the Rangers "are going to win the series no matter what happens tonight. Carolina is not coming back from 3-0, believe me." He was still mad at the guy as we glumly exited MSG. "That fucker jinxed everything. I need some tacos to make myself feel better." And so we got some tacos across the street.

    It's a great atmposphere, isn't it? One of my favorite parts might actually be John Brancy doing the anthem for these games.

    I am so sorry you picked that for your first game, even if it was a playoff game and they are still up. It was their first stinker this playoffs. Even after the Trouba goal, they had really been outplayed and were just going to steal another one if they hadn't imploded in the third. I felt what happened coming about 3 minutes into the third. They stopped attacking and were acting like they were going to be able to defend for 20 minutes with a 1-0 lead, and thta never works. When the play shifted to their end for minutes at a time, you knew it was coming. After the Staal goal, I thought they'd wake up and start playing again, but they folded. It's concerning, because that hasn't been them this season.

    I think they will be able to steal one of the next two, but I don't feel good about the way they look right now. The Rangers won two OT games that could have gone either way. They are up in terms of games, but they have been outplayed for the series. I wasn't there last night. On TV, the place sounded like a mausoleum during the third period. It would have depressed me.

    Missed the anthem! My friend texted me at 6:45 to see if I was free as his son bailed on him. I happened to be at 70th so it worked out well but got there with about 13 minutes left in first period. He said the same thing about Brancy.

    Even though I'm from Minnesota I don't know much about hockey strategy (we were a hoops town!), but even I in the second period was like, Rangers are playing awful and it's matter of time until Carolina scores. Then the third-period collapse. Yeah it went from incredible atmosphere to absolutely dead very quickly. Still some hope when they had a power play after falling behind 3-1 but like their other PPs that was awful and that was it.

    "Do you think Knicks can blow 2-0 lead and Rangers a 3-0 lead?" my friend asked me on the way out. I told him I'm from Minnesota and always expect something awful in sports so of course it can happen.
