    How many fans are going to decide that missing a football game or two is a price worth paying for not having to buy another goddamn streaming service? I didn't get the Amazon games last year, and felt no great loss. No loss, in truth.

    I guess that’s the difference between the NFL and other sports. Because there are so few games, there is a certain percentage of the population who want to watch all of them and are willing to get a streaming service to do so. No one is getting Apple TV just so you can watch a baseball game on a Friday night when you can see your team play every other night of the week and there are a million other games on cable TV.

    So few? There are 272 NFL regular season games that are now on four days/nights a week at least. If one a week on streaming goes to two or three a week, it's still not much of a cut in available content. Plus, all teams' games still go out over the air in their home markets, so the most likely reason a fan would pay for another service is gone. The streaming services are already discussing merger plans. They're all desperate for customers. So they'll overpay for a small taste of the NFL. I don't blame the league for taking their money, but I just don't think the services will get the ROI they're looking for.

    In comparison with the other three major TV sports, the NFL has very few games.

    True. But it still offers over 800 hours of content a season. That's a lot of inventory, broadcasting-wise. The league has it both ways here. It can split off a small portion of that for significant money from the streamers, without really damaging the over-the-air/cable deals that are its REAL money.
