He can't selectively exclude people unless they're actively disrupting the proceedings. Not by their presence, but by their actions. As long as everyone is behaving themselves inside the courtroom, then he cannot exclude anyone. Doing so, would put any potential verdict in jeopardy of being overturned.

Now, reporters have mentioned that several of Trump's entourage have been on their phones during court and only the attorneys have been given permission to use their phones inside the courtroom. Those folks could be removed if spotted by a bailiff or the judge.

 

So no "town hall" debate?

It is kind of shocking to me that Menendez is proceeding so quickly with his trial. With the amount of document review there surely is in the case, he absolutely could have delayed it, similar to what Trump and frankly most wealthy clients do. When he pulled his name from the Democratic Party primary for his seat in March, he said he might run as an independent when he was exonerated. That plan is the only thing that makes sense to me as far as his time table.

The jury could have the case before the week is out. Wow.

 

And if found guilty there will be appeal after appeal.

 

Yes, but in a criminal case the appeal doesn't delay judgment.

He's been doing his usual whining about the gag order since day 1 of this, and he's not going to take the stand? Maybe he listened to his lawyers for a change?
