They were held that long in part because Reagan conspired with the Ayatollah to keep them in captivity through the election.

Though they remained hostages more than two months after the election.

My dad entered Hospice in December. Ths reason was insurance was balking at paying for oxygen, and that got it taken care of. In early May, the sub Hospice nurse told my Mom it wouldn't be long (something they told the regular nurse they didn't want to discuss), but he died May 30 in his house with my Mom beside him. That was 15 years ago. They had 48.5 years of marriage and he was able to die without suffering.

One bad moment with a sub nurse does not outweigh the amazing work and care of the home hospice team.

The grave-dancers will have their blessed day soon enough. The hospice resources accorded to a former POTUS will cease. Ted Cruz will get his wish.
Neither hospice patients nor their families should ever fucking apologize for surviving long enough to be financially problematic. They're not trying to cause anybody else hardship. I'm proud of my dad for being an inspiration to me and to those who served him. He also understood when the word came down that his benefits might have to be suspended in the name of diverting resources to those whose death was imminent.

After Carter had been up all night on the phone trying to negotiate it before peacefully transferring power instead of being petulant and taking a midnight train to Georgia.

Some of this chatter needs to be taken to the Politics thread.

If referencing verified facts about the presidency of a former president on a thread about the man is too much, maybe you shouldn't read the thread.

Let's see, Jimmy Carter? Yeah, I've heard of him. He was a peanut farmer who built houses later in life, but I don't think much happened in between.

Long stint in the navy. Longest military career of any 20th POTUS after Ike.
