The day we lose Kareem will be a dark day on Earth. The man is so thoughtful and his heart shines through his insights. Losing Walton really makes you want to appreciate these souls even more.

I loved his announcing; it’s was enthusiastic and genuine.

Can’t really embed the Book of Faces anymore, but Bill Kreutzmann of the Dead had a great post.

A few years ago Kareem appeared at a family members' college. She had no idea who he was but the buzz on campus was real and she went. The field house, which also hosted commencement, was the only venue big enough for his talk. Not long after he was sitting a few seats down from me at the airport waiting for a flight, reading a paper. I respected his space and no one else bothered him, either.

"The late Bill Walton" is a phrase I never wanted to say, and it feels wrong to hear it now.

Absolutely. He's the kind of guy you need around to pick you up when you hear news like this.

Watched this for the first time last week.
So, the news is a bit jarring.
RIP to one of the really good guys.

    This sucks.

My love of UCLA basketball came from my dad, who played basketball in collage and was a big UCLA fan and loved Bill Walton. I grew up in 1970s and 1980s SoCal and UCLA hoops was a big thing. My parents went to the 1972 Final Four at the Sports Arena. Didn't take the news today very well when I texted him.

Didn't see any of UCLA playing days. Didn't see Portland. I do, of course, remember that damn 1986 Celtics team. And his broadcasting. Not everyone's cup of tea but he was passionate about it and it didn't bother me at all.

The Pac-12 died on Saturday. And now so has its biggest cheerleader.

    RIP to a true giant.
