Oh noes! Not the Russian navy! The mighty Russian navy!

(Yes, I know the implications. It still needed to be said.)

    Relax everyone.

It's a single sub, and a single frigate. AP's use of the word "fleet" is doing some heavy lifting there.

Still pisses me off seeing Soviet ships and sailors in Norfolk in 92 or 93. Bastards were in uniform buying Nirvana CDs at the Exchange on base.

92-93? They were our friends then. John Connor said so.

Birthplace of Billy Ocean. We could rename the fleet "Caribbean Queens.'

Does their sole aircraft carrier still need to be followed around by a tug due to the constant threat of needing critical repairs?

    Cause if they're together, that's a fleet.

I think most of the immigrant panic is centered in rural areas. Why? Because that's where the factory farms and associated businesses are. Citizens don't want to work in those hellscapes for crap wages, so Hispanic immigrants take up the slack. Plus, a lot of the immigrants are rural people themselves, often displaced from their home economy by climate change or Big Agra. So they gravitate to the country.

Some of the dying towns out in the middle of nowhere have received new life from immigration, but many old-timers see the communities as being "taken over." They'd almost rather see tumbleweeds blowing down Main Street.

Funny thing, the people up close to the shift are often pretty cool with it. The immigrants are feeding the local economy, patronizing local businesses, opening new businesses themselves. The kids who grew up there don't want to stay if they have any ambition other than to take over the hardware store or the family ranch.

An example is Ulysses, Kansas, in the southwest corner of the state. The most recent census shows the city of 5,000 to be 51% Hispanic. CNN did a story about the town a while back.

In southern Wisconsin, the city of Delavan is another example. It's a quaint farm/resort city with a circus heritage. It's about one-third Hispanic. The influx started with farm labor and built up on the resort trade in Delavan and the nearby Lake Geneva area. Drive down Main Street and you'd see an upscale small town with cobbled pavement and a bustling Mexican bakery (their tres leches cake is to die for).

I have a neighbor who operates a CAFO dairy farm with 2,800 "animal units" (an animal units is one calf or half a cow). Spanish is the lingua franca in the milking parlor, as it is on most big dairy farms in the state. Are all the workers citizens or green-card aliens? Nobody's asking. Nobody wants to know.
