It (somehow) passed NC state inspection every year!!!***

***except 2020, when, as a 30-year-old car, it was called an "antique" and exempt from yearly inspections. At probably its most unsafe (relatively speaking), it was exempt from safety inspection. Keep being you, American government.

My buddy told me long ago, its not the drivetrain that goes out, its the little stuff that goes out and leads people to get something else.

I've been anti-electric car but had one as a rental last week and really liked it. A Hyundai Ioniq, a low-frills car and a cheap rental because the Avis rep said no one wants the trouble of re-charging (or at least not in Atlanta). Now I know why, I couldn't find a plug where I could leave it for eight hours so I had to pay a penalty but it was about the equivalent of what I'd have paid anyway to fill up a gas tank before returning. But everything else about the car was fine and it drove nicely. I won't fight my wife anymore when she brings up wanting one, which she's been doing for a couple years.

Five model years later and Familia TigerVols is still driving the 2012 CRV, now with 158K miles, the last 25K of which are almost exclusive less than 30 mile round trips.

I have a 2002 CRV with 212,000 on it. We bought it for Micro Jr. in 2014, he drove it for the rest of HS and then in college. When he was moving to Denver i 2019, we wanted something more substantial and winter-worthy, so I took his car and we traded in my Camry and he got a used Escape.

My longest trip is the occasional 90-miler up to PDX. Otherwise, I drove it around town, get about 220 miles to a tank and only fill up once a month. Drives like a dream, easy to park, plenty of room for the dog in back, I love that car.

I've been searching, on and off, for a used Toyota Tacoma for years. It has to have: 4WD, extended cab (not double), a V6, and the biggest bed I can get. Prices are insane, with $30,000 being pretty much the starting point.

I had a '91 for a few years before it got totaled by a drunk in front of my house. If I could find one without insane miles, I'd love to have lock-out hubs again

I'm taking delivery of my first brand new car off the lot since 1988 on Saturday and am like a little kid. I know (as I've thought since then) that the car will rapidly depreciate but I thought hey, live a little now (I'm almost Medicare/Social Security eligible!) Sold my two cars to lighten the blow.

BTW, I'm swimming upstream getting a convertible while everyone is buying SUVs and everything but a conv. Ever since I've played with Hot Wheels, I've admired the top down silhouette and gladly will give up noise dampening for the feeling of freedom.

Does anyone else here enjoy the top down feeling as much as I do?

Mazdas have all the durability of Toyota and 3/4ths the fun of BMW. A very nice combo.

I drive to live and don’t live to drive. Mrs. W is great at negotiating leases so I just get whatever SUV she gets a deal on at the end of a calendar quarter.

I’ve realized I’m ahead of the game on my CR-V hybrid. I calculated it would take six years to make the hybrid option pay off in gas savings. I’m getting 41.5 mpg and will soon be in the plus on that much sooner than I thought thanks to Vladimir Putin driving up gas prices two years ago.

You just reminded me of something I meant to post on the economy megathread.
