A thread here without threadjack? That's good one.

Willie would have wanted it that way.

Rickey Henderson is the Phil Collins of Willie Mays.

And Rickey Henderson won't be on 1A either.

Why don't you just tell me what you'd like to see?

Rickey never did like to linger on first.

If anyone hasn't seen it, they should. Reggie owned the moment.

Loved how Reggie told his story plainly which made it that much more powerful.

And he told out bluntly. He didn’t sugar coat it to make white people feel better. He used the hard R and said he never wants to go through that again. Not it helped shape him, not he’s a better person. He said it was fucking awful.

We need to hear more of that. Because despite grumblings that institutional racism isn’t a thing and that we’re a post racial society, this still exists. We need to feel it and be uncomfortable. It was really good.

It was HARD to hear that. Good. It should be. If the last eight years have proven anything, it's how dangerously close we are to going back to that kind of society. Interviews like that can only help to motivate decent people to drown out the trash. And it should explain why guys like Reggie have reputations for being difficult. You'd be difficult too if you went thru what he went thru.

End of threadjack! When Brohamer was injured in 1974, the then-Indians called up Duane Kuiper from the minors. Kuiper went on to play and later broadcast for the Giants, so he encountered Willie Mays several times.
