If you go by the original premise, then he is also a liar. Because if he isn't stupid when he talks about tariffs, then he knows what he's saying is wrong. And you can exstrapolate that to any number of topics and decide which is worse as a candidate -- that he doesn't know stuff a president should know or the serial lying about basically everything.

You’re on the 7,153rd page of posts about this man. I don’t think anyone is underestimating his ability to destroy the country.

We’ve called him smart, stupid, insane, funny, evil, strategic, reckless. We’ve been told we pay too much attention to him, then not enough. We’ve been told we have a derangement syndrome. We’ve been told we give him oxygen. That we don’t give him enough oxygen. That if we pretend he’s not there he’ll disappear. That we’re ignoring why he has a constituency. That making jokes about him only makes him stronger. That we created him, that we won’t let him die, that he’s dead, that he’s unstoppable.

    (record scratch)

    It. Doesn’t. Matter.

It doesn’t matter what we consider him here. A few states and a few hundred thousand voters in those states will decide whether he is President again. He’s been in our lives daily for nine years now. He’s beyond a political figure and is now a historical figure like Alexander the Great is a historical figure. It’s all he ever wanted. He won. No matter what happens now, he won. It’s just a matter of limiting the damage and restoring some semblance of normality in his wake.

To quote Rex Tillerson, Trump is a fucking moron.
The only people dumber are the people who vote for him, and unfortunately, they are allowed to vote.

Poor Gerald Ford. His loss to Carter was much narrower than Trump's in 2020. He only had two years as POTUS befoee running against Carter. He have could just said the 1976 election was rigged, have his goons attack the Capitol and then could have swept the primaries in 1980 and defeated a weakened Carter. Easy peasy.

    Make America Grand (Rapids) Again!

Now.....why didn't he think of that?

I’ve sometimes asked why in 2000, Al Gore never considered doing what Trump wanted Pence to do or why Hillary Clinton didn’t try to get Joe Biden to overturn the election in 2016.

    Re: Trump being “smart”:

Conning your way through an entire lifetime without doing a single day’s honest work requires at least a modicum of intelligence.

That said, can anyone remember the last time you got the impression that he gave more than a nanosecond’s thought to something before he said it in public?

For New Yorkers of a certain age there is no eyeroll emoji big enough or eyerolly enough to characterize Trump as a businessman.

Much like the 1/6 protesters thought Trump would bail them out or pay their legal bills, I can see this guy telling Judge Judy he thought Trump would pick up his bar tab at the local pickup bar when the inkeeper sues for nonpayment.

Possibly speaking from ignorance here. In SBC churches, anyone under twelve is considered a child. At twelve, they are categorized as "youths." My family belonged to an SBC church for a little while in the mid-70s and that's what I remember.

The power dynamic most likely informed everyone's actions.
