Plus, threesomes take longer than twosomes, so if you send out a threesome to start, it's a log jam behind them and they're all waiting on every shot. If anything, send out a threesome last.

They do have to send someone out with the single -- usually a pro who works a club or a scratch member -- as a marker. Our intern got that assignment at one of our early tournaments where we had uneven groups.

There was a marker in the first group at the final round of the 1988 US Open at the Country Club and he played 18 holes hearing the galleries chant "Magic, Magic" as he passed them by.

NBC is saying "oh, we'll show you a watered-down product."

Re: the first part of your post…..if you’re the first one off Sunday morning….yes…..you want to be a single……fly around in 2:20 and be on your plane stat.
It’s the first/second round. That’s dumb to be playing by yourself then when they could put the first group as a 3-ball.
If they are that worried about backing things up, have the first group start 5 minutes earlier with 3.
    It’s a limited field event,
    This is not rocket science.

The starting times indicate the odd man will go out first with a marker tomorrow morning.

And the odd man will go out sixth-to-last on Friday with a marker.

Scheffler wins in a playoff over Tom Kim after protestors pepper the 18th green with some sort of paint bombs. Apparently they teed off early to miss the weather, because CBS is showing it plausibly live.

Between golf, Stonehenge and yelling at Jake Tapper’s kids, a banner week for protests everywhere, changing and saving the world. Too bad it’s summer or protesters could also be doing their part to keep Jewish students from walking on a college quad.

Right after the protest I got an email to my work address from "Extinction Rebellion", the organizers of the thing, explaining their "No Golf on a Dead Planet" motto (the protesters were wearing shirts saying that) and even referring to the lightning strikes the day before in their climate argument. Never mind that lightning strikes on hot summer days do happen, but overall I'll give them credit for a thorough media blitz.

And golf is definitely right up there with coal mines and the destruction of the Amazon (basin, not online store, although if someone wanted to protest Prime, that would be awesome). Again, I support the cause. But morons like that make it difficult for the people who are actually trying to make a difference.
