2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Running Thread

    They also typically start veering to the east back into the ocean after reaching a certain latitude.

    And speed up as well. They blow in and out once they get that far north, and don't linger like they sometimes do with a more southern landfall.

    Empirical data collected by me.

    June 21 - first official full day of summer
    7 a.m.
    Air temp 74
    Water temp in the mid Atlantic 80.1 degrees


    I took readings using my instaread thermometer I use for grilling. I tried to stay in about 2 feet of water. I took multiple readings without about 200 yards.

    That's not good. Surface water temperatures in the Atlantic and particularly in the Gulf are not looking favorable for beach dwellers this summer and fall.*

    *(Based on the data we accumulated from planes, ships and land positions previous to having weather satellites that could see hurricanes that far out in the Atlantic, which is pretty much everything before the Nimbus program in the mid-60s.)
