Yeah .... that's the reason for all the missed putts. The rainsuits didn't work.

Well no shit, but that's no fun to write in retrospectives of a 30-year road drought. It's leaky rainsuits, revolts against captains, Hatgate. The U.S. losing over and over again with usually some weird sidebar.

    1. I don't think captains matter that much. If you're storming in, as the U.S. did last year and presumably will next year with five or six of the top 10 in the world, you should be able to draw names out of a hat for the pairings and win
    2. Rainsuits and hats don't make or miss putts, any more than odd uniform combinations in college football win or lose games (that's for another thread, but while I'm on the subject, no one ever won or lost a game because of their uniform colors).

No one says the U.S. lost because of the rainsuits, but was a big storyline at the time and years later it's the most-remembered nugget from the U.S. loss. I don't think that's debatable. And decades after Marco Simone, Cantlay's hat will endure as the storyline of an inept team, even though the Cup was all but over before that. People remember the weird shit.

I agree with you on captains, certainly in the Presidents Cup the U.S. could roll out Freddie Couples or his dog for the next 20 years and be fine. There seems to be a vibe there that it's just no big deal, bring the better team and win. But the Ryder Cup has become so overcooked and overthought to the point of paralysis on the U.S. side. Schauffele was asked about Keegan yesterday and what could be changed and he talked about the formal dinners and photo ops. Completely ridiculous.

Captains don’t make putts or hit shots but leaders can inspire.

Even at my firm, my managing partner makes a difference, she sets a great example. That’s important.

Another MC for Spieth, who at this rate won't make it to Castle Pines for the BMW, much less East Lake.

I had to squint yesterday to believe Justin Thomas shot 62. Looks like he fell back in the second round tho

And if the mediocrity continues next year he's not gonna have a buddy to toss him on the Ryder Cup team just because he's Jordan Spieth.

I can’t wait to be out at Castle Pines that week. First time since 1999.(Week after Tiger won at Medinah)
BTW: If you’ve never been. You have to go.
    Incredible doesn’t do it justice.
