Words you hate hearing

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Overrated, Jul 11, 2006.

  1. Not a word, but a phrase: "At this time." Redneck males use it to invoke a sense of formality and gravity.
If I had a dollar for every time I heard that phrase at some sports banquet or awards ceremony, or in a high school class...

"At this time, I'd like to announce..."
"At this time, I'd like to recognize..."
"At this time, it's time to..."
"At this time, would ya'll please close y'all's books and get ready for the typo-laden, semi-coherent multiple choice test that I wrote up last night while eating a casserole with a shovel and watching a bass fishing show..."
"At this time, that breakfast burrito I ate this mornin's fixin' to say 'adios.'"

    It might be.

Moreover, it's always fun to see who'all played on the board back then.

    “They’re going to the monitor”

I had others but realized I see them instead of hear them.

"...basically..." they either did something, or didn't do something, they didn't "basically do something" Ex. The Supreme Court is basically wiping their ass with the Constitution.

"Uh, this is your captain speaking ..." as you sit on the tarmac. Never good news.

    I hate bad, lazy English:

“My bad” , just say my faults
    “Score the ball”, he scores
“Talk about”, just say can you describe/tell me what you think about ….
