The GOP had all the momentum and they blew it. Trump's Palpatine moment, the naming of a VP and the convention. That should've translated into a double-digit bump.

Instead, Kamala consolidated her status in less than 24 hours and turned the GOP bump into a minus-6 poll differential. And the Dems still have their own VP pick and a convention ahead.

Keep doing oppo research in San Francisco please. Kamala's prosecutorial days were across the bay in Alameda County.

Last week Biden nominated Val Demings and essentially reappointed William Zollars to his vacant slot. If Demings gets approved, they would have four Democrats and an independent (Amber McReynolds) who was appointed by Biden. You would need a majority of the nine spots to be able to vote out the Postmaster so if McReynolds is on the right side, they'll have it. You can't have more than five of the same party either.

Arguably the thing that quietly turned Trump’s fortunes around was his own summer surprise - switching campaign managers. It doesn’t seem as momentous now and Kellyanne Conway may have the scruples of a county fair midway, but she was a shot of competence and an outside viewpoint. And she got a then-desperate Trump to listen long enough to only stick half his toes in his mouth, which began to stop the bleeding with Republicans. That was just enough to let him survive the Access Hollywood tape and be ready to pounce when Comey shivved Hillary Clinton at the last moment.

Somehow there is still more gold to be mined from this mountain of bullshit.

The USPS board and the FCC board have to be bipartisan....but SCOTUS doesn't. Cool.

Anyone remember two weeks ago, when a lot of us thought this "shooting" would result in a huge bump in the polls that he would ride to re-election?

    Nothing happened. He's THAT unpopular.

It all boils down to the same thing for the GQP: It hasn't run a campaign based on issues since 2012. It's all about Trump and his warped world view. They don't have a plan for the border, health care, and, yes, INFRASTRUCTURE WEEK. Just the usual insults and quarter- to half-truths they've been running on, plus clinging to a past I'm not sure existed beyond repeats of "Leave it to Beaver" and the "Donna Reed Show" and refusal to deal with a future that includes, among other things, renewable energy and dealing with global warming.

Let me introduce you to a Jesse Helms classic, which remains the most racist ad I have ever seen. The fact that we're getting ads in 2024 - more than 30 years later - that give it a run for its money is absolutely appalling.
