Some personal news. Had my first hole in one today. 154-yard par three, three wood. Green on hole slopes severely left to right, but it rained this morning, so green was slow enough to keep the shot from picking up enough speed to roll right off into the fringe or rough, which is what usually happens.

Congrats and welcome to the club! We'll get you the jacket, keys to the private club and teach you the secret handshake soon.

Congrats. How much were the drinks you bought afterward?

Congrats! I’m not part of the club (not yet, anyway) but I’ve had someone in my foresome get an ace, and seeing it roll a long way into the cup lets the excitement build a bit.

Course is the town muni. No bar on the premises. One of my regular foursome and I played after the rain stopped with a guy and his 12-year old kid, who was freakin' good. How many kids that age have a short game? He did. So tomorrow is our senior men's league morning session, so I expect lunch at some place with a liquor license will be proposed.

    Congrats!

At my club we pay $10 annually in an "ace pot," if you get one you get $400 for the pro shop plus a $400 bar tab, valid as long as you're on the premises that day. I have not made one yet (grrrr) but I've been present for someone else's ace, so at least I got my sawbuck's worth.

We have a standing rule at our club.
Hole in one is worth a case.
Another club here in town about 30 years ago, one of the guys hit two in the same round. Pretty sure people are still drinking on his tab.
That being said, it’s the dumbest rule ever that the guy that hits one has to buy. Should be other way around.
I’ve hit one, my son has hit one, my nephew has hit one and I’ve witnessed two others. One with a driver and one with a lob wedge. At our annual Labor Day tournament years ago, one guy holed out on his first hole of the day that won him $10,000.

Crazy that Nelly Korda has a 10 and a 7 on par-3s this year in arguably the two biggest tournaments. But two more rounds in Paris, still could win.

At the Pnote Vedra Inn and Golf Club, where we stayed when my parents just couldn't handle visitors at their home anymore, and where I first went in 1966, one of the two courses has a par-3 with a plaque at the tee. On one fine day in in 1987, four guys had holes in one within like four hours. The plaque has their names and the total bar tab of like just south of $6000.

When the comms guys also has advanced Rules certification ... had an interesting one today, as I had to fill in as a referee on a championship match at our event, while also finding time to sneak some photos for our gallery. Doubt any other of our Rules officials could pull that double off, lol.
