It's just plain stupid that USA track is that deep to have a 16-year-old on a relay

For Quincy Wilson to run in the Olympics at just 16 years old is absolutely amazing

The 16 year-old almost cost the relay a trip to the finals. His leg was almost 3 seconds slower than his times at the trials. He was practically jogging before passing the baton. Yikes.

Carmelo shouting at Durant is the most USA basketball thing since Jordan in 84.

47.23 would have finished seventh in the Texas 6A high school state meet, but he would have tied for first in 5A.

I never quite understand the track relay splits. There is what, a 10 meter handoff zone - if the slower runner goes farther into the zone, doesn't that affect the next runner's time?

Just watched the relay. Norwood was a stud -- 43.6!

I don’t care what the box score says, the guy who gets the ball when your up two and less than 45 seconds on the clock is considered the best player by the guys on the floor.

    From a track coaching site:

1.Start your stopwatch at the smoke, not the sound of the gun

2.The first split (or 2nd runner) is taken at the staggered 400m start line, not the exchange!

3.Splits are taken when the BATON crosses the line, not when the handoff is taking place

4.3rd and 4th runners splits are taken at the finish line.

Basically, it doesn't matter which runner is carrying the baton. The split is taken when the baton crosses the appropriate line. Although, I think it's actually when the chest of whichever runner carrying the baton crosses the line, not the baton itself.

Is this from back in the cinder/clay track days?
