    Forgive this minor threadjack ….

Took in the Nats’ Low A team here tonight, because my kid was making his high school marching band debut, playing the anthem.

Home team threw a three-pitcher combined no-hitter, and - in minor league style - managed to give up a run in the ninth for a 7-1 win.

Throwing a no-hitter while giving up a run has to be exceptionally rare, right?

Lead off walk, two errors, a blown double play, and a wild pitch got the guy in …

The Detroit Tigers beat the Orioles 2-1 in 1967 despite getting no-hit in the first game of a doubleheader in Baltimore.

The Tigers scored twice in the top of the ninth with two outs. Steve Barber walked the first two batters, then a sac bunt and popup. However, a wild pitch tied the game and Mickey Stanley walked. The O's put in Stu Miller, who got a ground ball to short but second baseman Mark Belanger dropped the throw that would have ended the inning, allowing the lead run to score.

Surprisingly there have been 25 no-hitters in which the team that got no-hit scored at least one run. Sort this by runs against:

The best no-hitters are the unofficial ones in which the road team threw a no-hitter but lost and didn't pitch in the ninth, so it's not an official no-hitter. A rare misstep by Fay Vincent. Four of the five such not no-hitters have happened since 1990!

Speaking of no-hitters … no one is speaking of it in San Fran tonight.

And LMAO at a former Dodger coughing up the no-no.

One of my favorite weird baseball things. Guy threw a no-hitter and lost 4-0! Buck Showalter went off on a great tangent about it after the Mets' combined no-no in 2022.

When Cleveland does Cleveland things, I always think of my dad, who was born in 1953, after they blew a 3-1 lead in the 2007 ALCS just very plainly saying, “They’re really not going to do this thing in my lifetime, are they?”

That’s before they blew a 3-1 lead in the World Series.

This one is bad because there’s two more months of watching this thing burrow into the mud and then somehow explode into flames.
