It's mitigated if Hamlin was turning up to try and block Dillon, but I can't tell from the camera angles USA used. I have no idea if NASCAR has the kind of data that lets it check steering angles.

SMT does. It's how they bagged Chase Elliot when he punted Denny Hamlin.

Don't worry, you only have him for one or two more races. Leigh Diffey is taking over.

Leigh Diffey has a shelf-life of maybe a year or so before he starts to seriously grate.

Good thread here on the whole shebang.

As Dillon goes, the following image applies.

LOLOL to anyone who thinks NASCAR is gonna change its stripes, from the drivers to whatever passes for Race Control. It's a soap opera on wheels with the same plot devices recycled over and over just with different characters and paint schemes.

There’s never any accountability for the folks in race control. They’re paid to make calls when things “happen fast.” The lack of consistency in the booth has been a years-long problem. NASCAR: “We want multiple people with experience calling the races.” Let them learn in the truck series, not in Cup.

Ultimately this is the “penalty” Dillon will get:
    • $50,000 fine
    • Docked 25 points regular season
    • Docked all playoff points (not that it matters)

Twenty-five points will knock him down to 32nd in the standings, and take him out of the playoff spot (that he's currently not in anyway because he's outside the top 20).

They did away with the top-30 rule, which is why this knucklehead is in the playoffs. They’re going to let him keep the win.
