In the past week, trump went mental over crowd sizes, lied about the Harris campaign using AI to manipulate photos, got confused about a helicopter ride and mixed up two Black men. And then he slurred and wheezed through a nonsensical campaign ad with Elmo

When should we expect wave after wave of stories from the NYT and WaPo about his mental and physical decline? And calls from media outlets and his own party to step down?

You can't do meaningful stories on someone's mental decline without important people within your own party commenting on it. I've seen tons of stories on "experts" commenting on how messed up Trump is mentally. Gains no traction at all.

Hell, Biden's decline has been obvious for some time but gained zero traction until prominent Democrats called on him to step aside. And even then it took him being in a position in which he had almost no path to victory for those prominent Democrats to speak up. ONLY THEN did the NYT and WaPo start running stories on his possible ouster/resignation.

Right now prominent Republicans don't dare say anything, and Trump's poll numbers aren't nearly bad enough to send a shock wave through the party. So what the hell are the NYT and WaPo going to write that every American can't see with their own eyes?

This constant need to have media "say what I want them to say" is puzzling. Half the country thought Trump/Musk went well. The other half said Trump was Daffy Duck. Whose mind is the WaPo going to change?

I’d keep hitting “like” on this if I could.

More of a comment on the unbalanced coverage of the issue. It’s every bit the story that it is/was with Biden.

If the 18 to 30’s show up, as they appear to be organizing like crazy, then it’s over.

It's unbalanced for a REASON: One party got a such shock from its candidate's mental state --- and its effects on the polls --- that it felt forced into action.
The other party, publicly anyway, is treating its candidate's mental state as business as usual. No action.

Remember, NONE of this would have happened had Biden been +6 in the polls. The "coverage" of Biden would have been non-existent. Because there would have been no action taken. The media reacted to the news.

And I'd say things are going pretty glowingly for Harris-Walz. Harris got a "Person Of The Year-looking" TIME magazine cover . . . despite refusing to do an interview.

Reporting actually takes some work. There are always people willing to talk in the trump orbit. But the story actually has to be pursued. Maybe outlets can pull a few reporters off the useless daily horserace poll pieces.

Biden deserved and got scrutiny from all angles on his physical and mental health. And trump obviously has the same issues. They should be covered far more than they are. Even if it's a tough job. News is news, and the candidate's clear inability to function is the most important issue there is.

The Biden age coverage has been prevalent since before he got the Dem nomination in 2020. Then it went nuclear after the debate. Trump's decline has been steep and noticeable. Yet it's treated as "it's just trump," which is fucking insanity. The normalization of the lunatic is beyond comprehension.

Worth a listen. Danny Collins was drafted by the Braves, played in the Gulf Coast League, became a white supremacist during one of his prison terms ... and then had an epiphany.
