Povich has kicked ass tonight. If the O’s lose he’s not the reason.

St. Louis beats the Dodgers 5-2.
Padres have a chance tonight to further close their NL West gap.

Tonight, he looked different from any other Orioles starter, even Burnes, with the efficiency of his pitch count.

    And then Cano ruins it.

San Diego now within two of Dodgers. Plus-five atop wildcard.
Hard for me to pinpoint, but this club reminds me of Kansas City in 2013 and 2014 ... on the cusp of good things.
Pulling for Mike Shildt. Grew up rooting for the Cardinals, but screw their "nation."

Max Fried, just sitting on the bench in the dugout in Anaheim, got tagged in the head by an errant Angels infielder's throw.

It was an attempt at a 3-6-3 double play, but the pitcher (Cisnero) beat the first baseman (Schanuel) to the base. Cisnero is 6-foot-3, but was still running and was hunched over. Schanuel is 6-foot-4. The throw from Neto zoomed over the head of Cisnero (Schanuel probably could have caught it) and cleared the netting in front of the dugout.

A lot of weird things in the Angels-Braves game. The weirdest was umpire James Hoy on a video replay. He zipped down his pullover to get his earpiece to communicate with the replay booth, and he was wearing a T-shirt with a picture of Kramer from Seinfeld on it. New York must have told him, because he started laughing and zipped it back up.
Also, Angels left fielder Taylor Ward tried to make a sliding catch of a foul fly ball. The ball missed his glove, but it landed on his leg and he (allegedly) grabbed it before it hit the ground.
And, it turns out there is a yellow box on the fence in left field in the middle of a set of railings. If the ball hits above the yellow box, it's a home run. Merrifield did it tonight. People who have seen hundreds of games at Anaheim Stadium have never seen this nor been aware of the yellow box.

Found myself going down a rabbit hole on BaseballReference, and found one of the all-time great baseball names. A guy who pitched in the Reds and Cubs organizations in the 1950s.

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the one and only Dizzy Dean Higginbottom. Apparently, that actually was his name.

Q: Who leads MLB in scoreless starts for 2024?

    A: Albert Suarez, 8.

    Go figure.

How did the Angels become such a badly run organization?

    Royals sweep Reds
Guardians lose 3 in a row.
    3 back.
    I’ve got a funny feeling…..

If Cleveland doesn’t win the ALC, it will point to its record vs. White Sox (5-5).

There were several Dizzys back in the day.
But for all-time great baseball names, I'll see your Dizzy Higginbottom and raise you one Johnny Dickshot.
