If a politician does things the right way and doesn’t win, then absolutely the course correction should be to embrace the seven deadly sins like a security blanket. Maybe McCain and Romney losing to a great politician (not always the same as a great president) isn’t sufficient data for the entire Republican Party to double down on cruelty. Seems like the guy before Obama won twice by presenting as a decent guy on the campaign trail, whatever you thought of his policies. And Clinton and Bush 41 and most certainly Reagan before that. (Those are all the campaigns I can remember.)

Eventually people get fed up with “Don’t make alcoholic daddy hit you!” as a reason to let their neighbors run amuck.

 

It’s more lame than his usually shitty nicknames (aren’t people tired of that crap too?). But it’s on brand for a senile old asshole who’s stuck in a 1980s mindset.

Also, he’d sell the United States to Putin in a heartbeat.
