Cosmo, that's a very extreme prediction. It's all just reversion to the mean. Look my Phillies have sucked since, well, since devout Phillies fan Joe Biden said he wasn't running, but while I am distressed, I am not distraught, because I never figured them for a 100 win team or even really a 95 win bunch (they could still do that). Since Opening Day you and the Orioles bunch here have correctly described your team as a good one with some, let's say, pitching issues. Now the issues are asserting themselves. It's still a good team, and it's not like the Yankees don't have some air holes, too.

Thirty four games to go. Get a grip guys. I root for the team that's lost more games, by a lot, in its history than any other. The one that had the worst collapse ever (7 up with 11 to play and lost) in 1964, one I was there for and attended a couple of the games. The one with the most negative mean fans in the world and proud of it. And I'm telling you to relax, at least until September 15.

 

The Orioles are 5 1/2 games up on the Red Sox for the last playoff berth and have already won the season series, so they have the tiebreaker and are thus 6 1/2 games up on the Red Sox. They're not missing the playoffs. (But they aren't winning a series, or maybe even a game)

 

The Mets will win the series against the Padres and D-backs and piss it all away against the White Sox.
