Not really. Last year's was pretty spot on. We just got lucky that the named storms were fish storms because of La Nina. We are just hitting the peak of Atlantic hurricane season. With every fiber of my being I hope the next five weeks don't light up light a Roman candle.

Oh, and I openly own to being punchy about hurricanes. As previously, I geek on them.
If someone tells me it's going to rain with wind gusts next week in Chad, I'll gladly start the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season Running Thread.

Every day of U.S. Open tennis on TV without a hurricane crawl or small picture-in-picture radar image at the bottom of the screen will be a good day.

I'll take one week of quiet with eight more dangerous weeks following that.

Last year (an El Niño year) was like this too if I remember right. Quiet early, then all hell broke loose in September.

Other than Hurricane Gloria and the weirdness of the eye of the hurricane, my thoughts about hurricanes are weird.

I was reading a Walker Percy novel in which the narrator was talking during a hurricane about his crime, which occurred during a hurricane. Katrina was hitting Louisiana that weekend. I remember that a forecast was it wouldn't hit New Orleans, or be that strong.

I'll take last year's "all hell broke loose" season every year.

The worst of it did not hit New Orleans. The Mississippi coast got the full brunt of the storm itself. Gulfport, Biloxi, and several other towns along that stretch were absolutely devastated. If you recall, the big story immediately after Katrina passed was that New Orleans was spared yet again.
Then the levees broke and it turned out New Orleans had not been spared.
