There's an auto repair place that an AAA guy recommended a few miles from me. I stopped by once to see about having a new rear-view mirror installed, and there were Trump signs everywhere. I would have gone ahead and asked to have the work done, but one (and likely more) of the signs was the "F--- Joe Biden" variety, so I just said "F--- this place."

A parent and his/her little kid could walk into the building. No need to see that.

We say Boston Tea Party like it’s a kegger at somebody’s house, not even mentioning that a lot of folks were killed / murdered during it. Victors write the history, indeed.

There's a guy who has a "F*** Biden" flag in his yard by me as well. Look, I don't mind if you have a Trump sign, though I obviously don't agree with the sentiment. But when its the vulgar variety, all you're telling me is that you're a bit of a simpleton who is a bit selfish the in the process.

We kind of downplay that part while highlighting the making the world's largest cup of Earl Grey part.

Yeah, no one died in the Boston Tea Party. Five got themselves killed at the "massacre" because they started a gun fight with snowballs and ice chunks.

I only have one neighbor with a Trump sign and it’s someone everybody already knew was a raging asshole, so no harm done.

The only interaction I’ve ever had with her is when she yelled at me to not let my dog piss or shit on her lawn (she used those exact words, even though my then 6-year-old son was with me).

She apparently calls the cops on our other neighbor all the time, mainly because of where he leaves his boat trailer or motorcycle (both are on his property and are not a hindrance to anyone).

That's a good one, too. Hadn't heard of that. Have heard of jack shacks.

Greensboro had a pretty active anti-porn movement in that era. At one point in the early aughts they tried to ban strip clubs using the "secondary effects" theory that SCOTUS created allowing bans on low value speech when certain conditions related to increased crime are met.

There's passing mention in the article I linked about protestors filming people going in and out of the stores to discourage people from going in at the time Robinson was a regular.

As a result of that scrutiny, I suspect sellers in North Carolina in the 90s were careful about only having relatively mainstream porn and not pushing boundaries. Part of the obscenity test is "contemporary community standards", which made it possible pre-Internet for something to be considered "obscene" in Greensboro, North Carolina that was not considered "obscene" in NYC.

On a similar note: One of the largest obscenity busts in U.S. history happened in Hillsborough, North Carolina in the 80s during the Reagan administration because Hillsborough is the home to Adam & Eve's parent corp and they had a big mail order warehouse there. It didn't result in any convictions, though.

We have a seafood market here in town — for years it was by far the best in the area and the owner would drive by our favorite local restaurant on his way back from the Fulton Fish Market to drop off what he considered to be top stuff for them to make their catch of the day. Owner retires and sells the shop to one of his employees. I stopped by around 2018 or so and the new owner and all of the workers except for one are wearing Trump or MAGA hats. Turned right around and haven’t been back since.
