New OC. New QB. New center. New linemen. New receivers. The field goals were disappointing, but they also had only one three-and-out drive. Last year the Steelers would string three, four, or five of those in a row.

Fields showed some zip and command on deep throws, including the one wiped out by the weak offensive PI against Pickens. And keep in mind, this was supposed to be Wilson starting, so the fact that Fields led six scoring drives despite some dumb penalties, that’s something. They’re building something, and it’s far from a finished product in Week 1. It a good start.

There was a 66-yarder in the Dallas game called back due to delay of game.

I think the Falcons are a playoff team. It’s just that when that Steeler defense is healthy, it’s really good. Watt was everywhere as was Wilson. Queen was a great signing.

Fields was nervous to start the game but started to settle down. Pickens in Kansas City would be illegal. Harris ran angry.

Fields needs to run more and take fewer sacks.

For his career, Tomlin has winning percentage over .500 when backups start ant QB. Absolutely crazy stat. He’s a hell of a coach.

Daboll is running away with the “First coach to be fired” race.
He may not make it to October.

I get that we have to read about Female Smallpotatoes on the college football thread. Now we have to get her tweets on the NFL threads?
Can you please stop posting tweets from this completely inconsequential person?

I think that, at this point, every market, big or small, has a Navi Bean or whatever her name is.

I wish they had tried the 71-yarder.

I’d like to see a 50-59 yarder count as four points and a 60+ yarder count as five points. Create new strategies and make long distance kickers more valuable.

For some reason, a few days ago, I went down a rabbit hole of Jan Stenerud stories. In one of the stories, while in college, he apparently once tried a 107-yard field goal.

As the story goes, Montana State’s punter wasn’t very good, and at that time, a missed field goal could also serve as a live ball punt, instead of the ball being put back to the line of scrimmage or the spot where it was kicked.

As Stenerud told the story, he was told to go out there and kick from his own end zone as far as he could. Stenerud said that he found himself actually trying to line up the goal posts before asking himself what the heck he was doing. He said he kicked it to about the opposing team’s 30-yard line.

Right about the time I had written off Najee Harris, he starts running like a man possessed. And Cordarelle Patterson got more carries than Jaylen Warren.

My issue with that is that there already is a growing disincentive for teams to actually try to drive the ball down the field. If you start your final drive at your 30, you only need to gain 25-30 yards to have a good chance at a winning kick. Watching teams desperately try to get in the end zone is more entertaining than watching teams try only to barely cross midfield so bazooka leg can win it from there.

I would take your suggestion and go in the opposite direction. A 60+yarder counts as one point (can still be a tying or winning kick if needed, so plenty valuable).

But you should get potentially greater rewards for driving down the field. 50-60 yarder counts two points. Anything under 50 counts as 3 points. At least in that scenario you have to drive to the opposing team's 32 to get a full 3-point reward for a kick.

Narrowing the goal posts is the only solution I’ve seen that doesn’t completely bastardize place kicks. And the college game has proven life goes on if the hash marks don’t align with the posts.
