I feel bad for UNLV fans who get ranked for the first time in 40 years and then this is how you lose your starting QB

If what he says is true, how can you watch the first three games and back out of whatever was committed to him?

And to your last point: yes, there is no reason to get invested anymore. There is no reason to get attached because what are you getting attached to. Why follow recruiting anymore? Why pay attention to the portal when things like this happen? Why watch a game and worry you'll lose guys playing "too well" because they're just going to leave?

And I'm not anti-player and saying let's go back to the way it was, but it's basically NFL light where everyone is a free agent every year

 

NIL is a cesspool.

 

Rule of unintended consequences and yadda, yadda, yadda.

 

The QB will get painted as the bad guy in all this, but how many people would stay at a company that promised to pay X and then only delivered a fraction of that?

 

If schools would stop pretending that football and basketball players aren't employees (like they should have done 20+ years ago) we could have direct contracts, collective bargaining and a whole bunch of guardrails in place.

But as always, the well heeled university presidents have their heads buried in the sand. The charade of "amateur" athletics in college ended decades ago.

 

A few more cases of players not getting what they were promised by the NIL collective may finally result in a players union being established.

 

Looking at his stats, I'd say the qb failed to live up to UNLVs expectations, Yes, he's got a great QBR, but he's not completing 50 percent of his passes and is averaging just 106 yds a game. 6 tds v. 1 pick is good. But dang, he's a senior. He's not that good. Three of his TDs came against Utah Tech. Don't these players get these NIL deals in writing?

 

There seems to be a great deal of dispute on whether he didn’t get all that he was promised or that some agent started whispering in his ear that there was an even bigger bag available elsewhere if he bailed and preserved that last year of eligibility.

His passing numbers don’t look great but he’s apparently a talented rusher and they rode his legs to the Kansas upset.

 

Agents are infiltrating the college ranks, fronting cash to players, certain they can get that plus a little vig for their trouble elsewhere. This guy is not going to the NFL.

 

So this is going to become a trend: You go somewhere, exceed expectations in the first 3-4 games, show off some talent, quit in time to preserve the year’s eligibility, flirt with unlimited new suitors, pick one at the semester break and affirm love and loyalty to it. Forfeit majority of cash with first school but more than make up for it.
