Of course it was overturned; nothing is fair play in America these days. Nothing.

Yep. Curiously, I almost think this is a play that's best replayed at full speed so you can have an idea of how long the receiver is on the ground with firm control.

ACC does this. Especially when a team is their lone hope at making the playoff.

Didn't ACC refs give Miami a totally bogus TD on a last-play kickoff return to win a game against Duke several years ago? A play in which there were about five clear blocks in the back and several times where the runner was either down or had thrown a forward lateral?

This may be a cop-out, but if the officials are looking for evidence that they ultimately got it right in ruling incomplete, their grounds may be that the receiver fell on a teammate who was out of bounds. Quite some time thereafter, the Miami guy stole the ball, but that's moot if I'm right that the player never had a legal catch because -- before hitting the ground himself -- he fell one a guy who was out of bounds.

In fairness, that could theoretically have happened any time going back to the BCS days.

Yes. N&O had a still photo of a Hurricane with knee down and ball still in hand before pitch to a teammate early in the play. Video wasn't as obvious as that still photo, but it was conclusive enough to deem the play over.

That said, no way was he overturning tonight’s call unless the command center explicitly said to do so.

That being said (and let me say this very very clearly) I have absolutely no dog in this fight.
I’m just curious what was the one shot. The one screen grab that said “Hey. Something is not right there.”

And this guy is exactly right.
If you rule it a touchdown on the field, it’s got to be incontrovertible to reverse it.

Brent Pry has as much proficiency for game management as Donald Trump has for restraint and dignity. He seems like a congenial man and has steered the program in the right direction generally, but he has no clue what he’s doing once the game actually begins; he’s Nathaniel Hackett-level bad at this sort of thing. Tech was famously patient with Frank Beamer, but that was three decades ago, and this guy isn’t Frank.

I almost made it to the end before nodding off on the couch last night. The more replays I watch of the hail mary, the more I'm convinced he never actually had control of the football. It was moving the entire time, even once he hit the ground. And yes, Pry has restored some of the recruiting mojo to the program but he is brutally bad as an actual in-game coach. That said, Whit is going to ride with him for a while, I think.
