Hate the crazy interstates. Always good to take the back roads anyway.
Takes a bit longer, sure. But relax and enjoy the ride. Better scenery, too.

Everything you said I would apply to I-24 and Monteagle Mountain between Nashville and Chattanooga.

Did that once in a downpour. Had an 18-wheeler behind me, so I couldn't go too slow. Had another 18-wheeler in front of me lose it and deliberately slam himself into the guard rail to keep himself from going out of control. Now THAT was a harrowing ride down the mountain.

The Bandit had a similar experience on Monteagle!

The only time I’ve ever driven it was on a clear, sunny Saturday morning drinking coffee, eating Chic-fil-A for breakfast, and listening to a replay of an old Jimmy Buffett concert on Radio Margaritaville, so I actually had a good time.

Today is going to suck. I was supposed to be traveling to North Carolina to broadcast a college football game. Well, that ain't happening ... the broadcast or the game.
Instead I get to spend it cleaning up from the storm. It's just debris, not damage, so it'll be OK, I guess.

The dam isn't really holding back water. It's holding back millions of cubic yards of silt. It hasn't functioned as a dam in more than 50 years. It's a fancy waterfall. It's not like if it cracks there will be some kind of flood. The water is already going across it. What happens if all that silt breaks loose is anybody's guess. It just won't be a wall of water.
I have video of it yesterday at noon but can't figure out how post it.

That side to the right where the trees are is all rocks and natural landscape. A few years ago, a moron decided to go diving off the rocks. He obviously died, but it took about three days to get his body out because it was caught in some sort whirlpool. It was a local attraction for people to drive by to see the floater. There is a bridge just out of frame on to the right (about 100 yards down river from the dam... good smallmouth fishing) that will undoubtedly be taken out. It just reopened fully in August after a 6-month rebuild!
