Maybe it's because we just had the Olympics, but the President's Cup, the Laver Cup (which apparently was held last weekend), I just couldn't care less this year. Or maybe it's the whole LIV/Saudi thing that is destroying my affinity for a lot of international pro sports (golf, tennis, soccer).

If I didn't know better, I'd swear today's Presidents Cup session was rigged. Then again, the Americans have laid big eggs in alternate shot before.

The Presidents Cup is such a fraud. The Fried Egg had a tweet listing the NFL quarterbacks from the last time the U.S. lost, and it includes Marino and Elway.

Funny how the Presidents Cup (31 years old) and the FedEx Cup (17 years old) are such frauds, yet, they're still getting enough sponsorship and TV money to stay afloat. And when's the last time a player opted out of the Presidents Cup for non-injury related reasons? If ever?

Nice of Si Woo and Tom to continue their frightening inability to read the room. After yelling and screaming their way around Quail Hollow 2 years ago, they decided to one-up it with the whole night-night.

I don't exactly find 10 U.S. wins in a row and a 13-1-1 all-time record to make for compelling sports, but you do you. Especially now without international LIV players, the lack of depth this time was alarming. Maybe next time the International team can annex Texas for one week.

As for the lack of opt-outs, I don't believe for a second that players are only getting free uniforms and doing it for the flag. The pay issue never pops up there like it does at the Ryder Cup, prob because the Tour makes a nice drop into retirement accounts or some other wink-wink deal.

Way way way back when I was a teen and young adult, the Ryder Cup was a complete afterthought on the sports calendar because the US always won in a rout. When it started to become competitive in the '80s, it started on its path to the big-time event it is today. The Presidents Cup will remain largely ignored even by golf fans until it too becomes more competitive. I don't know how that is to be accomplished.

    International team majors total: 3
USA team majors THIS YEAR: 3 (4 not including Bryson)
This is the Generals v Globetrotters right now.

And two of those majors belong to Adam Scott and Jason Day, who are probably looking at their last Cups as players in Australia in 2028.

I don't know if there's a boom coming of Asian male golfers like the women over the last 25 years, but short of that I don't see a fix either. You have to be a PGA Tour member to compete and 10 Tour cards are now allocated every year to the top 10 from the DP World Tour so international players are getting squeezed there.
