The difference IMHO between the Ryder Cup and this travesty is that whereas the US team is playing for the country they all share, and whereas the Euros are also playing for a (somewhat) common area, the "International" team share what exactly? What is Corey Connors sharing with Min Woo Lee or Tom Kim?

Yes a team, but a team that they've been drafted into.

Couple that weak thread with the lack of history and its far from being a compelling event.

Even with that, I watched a little just to see Sam Burns make Tom Kim putt out every 2 footer.

It took Ernie Els, when he was captain, going to the PGA Tour and asking "can we possibly get more ownership of our side?" So they got a logo and now talk about "playing for the shield." Snooze.

The only interesting stories coming out of this are Keegan Bradley's wild ride, Cantlay emerging into the biggest U.S. match play force of this generation and Scheffler/Henley as maybe a new stud duo at Bethpage. Because we always talk U.S. Ryder Cup after Presidents Cup. The International Team won't be on anyone's mind for the next 23 months.

Not included in that story is that ANGC also gave $5 million to local relief efforts.

Do not care that I shot 113 today at the Straits Course at Whistling Straits. Definitely the most visually stunning golf course I've ever played. My caddie was awesome. And the woman in my group made a fucking hole in one on No. 12, the tiny little par-3 green that basically juts into Lake Michigan. One hop and in. No one else in our group even hit the green. Was a blast to watch. Off the top of my head, the Canyon Course at Forest Highlands in Flagstaff is the only thing that competes for me as far as playing experiences. The finishing hole at Straits is as much of a bear as you think it is watching on TV, and we were playing way up. Couldn't imagine playing that from 520 yards like the pros do.

Special place. My Dad took me there for my 40th birthday, the last great golf trip we had while he was alive. Years later I returned and spread some of his ashes off one of the lakeside holes.

Kohler is also one of the few golf trips where I've said "I gotta get my wife here." The accommodations are top-notch, the Kohler design center is very cool and I bet the plant tours are as well. And it's fun to just to drive around the company town.

Also: Those caddies earn every cent.

Trying to decide now for next year either Wis or Hawaii for our golf buddy trip. (Scottsdale for us next week with AirBNB with 10 Bd rooms and a bowling alley!)

There were a lot of buddy trips out here this week. I'd definitely recommend Kohler. You've got four full golf courses, plus The Baths -- which is akin to the Cradle at Pinehurst and just super fun. Speakers on every hole, just a great low key fun vibe. There are fancy restaurants on property and something casual like The Horse and Plow, where we just ate. Downtown Sheboygan has its own charms and is only 15 minutes away. I didn't expect to have this much fun on this trip, but it's been great. Lots of nice touches, like the leather scorecard holder they give you at Whistling Straits, or the free hot dog or brat that you get at the turn at all courses.

Great stuff. I got to play the media day before the 2004 PGA Championship. It’s an absolutely incredible place.

I remember starting on the 7th hole, a par 3. I made par. That didn’t last. I made an 11 on the par 5 11th. Pete Dye called it the Sand Box. I think I hit eight of 11 shots out of sand. And that’s because I had a 1-putt.

I will absolutely get back there again. Pretty sure I can convince a few buddies to make a trip.

The Presidents Cup was created at a time when Greg Norman, Nick Price and Ernie Els were becoming or were dominant players and the PGA Tour wanted to capitalize on that. It did seem a void in golf that world No. 1s like Norman didn't have an international match play event in which to play.
And regardless of your claim it has "a lack of history," it's been around since 1994. That's 30 years and it's still getting the sponsorship money to keep afloat. The Tour won't do anything if they can't make some money and if the Presidents Cup is still going after three decades, that should tell you something.
