To also be fair, dixiehack's post wasn't about hospice. It was about current (modern?) society ... and its uptight, hidebound views on the issue of choosing your own method of transitioning on, and doing so while accompanied by your own personal dignity all the way, at an advanced age or with some other debilitating condition at a younger age.

Choosing our own exits, and the doorways to those exits, surely will be anxious and horrific and traumatic enough in itself. ... Think about that, please, when you consider the subject, and the options, and the painstaking decision process down those roads for someone – anyone – who is not us.

If, though, we somehow break the "law" in the process, what happens then?
Do we wake up cold and dead in a jail cell? Hahaha, well alrighty then. ... YOU WIN!!!

    p.s. OK, BUT ... ... BUT ... ... ... ... BUT THEN WHAT?

Also, hospice care in the U.S. is not always just about ushering the client into a safe, comfortable death.

Palliative care, before transitioning to the final departure, often is included in a hospice service.

So check around when considering plans, etc. Jimmy's hospice plan has given him excellent palliative care all the way.

My mom had Trump's Disease (frontotemporal dementia) and she spent five years in homecare, followed by a few months in memory care at the end. She saved up a shitload of money and at the end there was nothing left.

When the end comes, I will be more considerate and just step in front of a bus.

It was at least a little about hospice, which is the only part I meant to address in my comment. I wasn't talking about the broader issue of end-of-life choices.

Mail ballots will be sent out on Oct. 7. He's got a chance!

Think I read that Georgia voids the ballots of early voters if they learn about their death prior to Election Day.

Apologies if this was mentioned upthread, but it’s crazy that the last Democratic president to die was LBJ.

Just a very few weeks after attending Harry's funeral, IIRC.
    Happy 100th, President Carter.
