Weirdly, that's what I miss about the "old" conservative movement. Didn't agree with them but they sure put their intellectual backs into their arguments. Now it's just gibberish.

Maybe the people you are talking about aren't conservatives?

Granted, I don't run multi-billion dollar corporations, and most people probably spend $5 in a shot anyway, so what do I know? But it seems like jacking up the price of a lottery ticket from $2 to $5 would be bad for business. To me, a lottery ticket is a fun throwaway impulse purchase that lets you dream for a little while. But that's a $1 or $2 purchase, and if you spend $5 or more it's to get multiple chances. At $5 a shot it starts to get to where you really feel the twinge of "Why am I doing this again?"

Batman, you're right they'll lose some customers, but those will be among the occasional players who buy tickets when the jackpot gets really big and not at other times, the ones who buy scratch tickets as Christmas stocking stuffer presents. Those are a small percentage of the lotteries' total take. The bulk comes from the habitual, not to say addicted, players, the ones who clog up the purchase line at the liquor store on a daily basis.
