That’s the longest day of football ever, right? Only one that might rival it is if there was an Ireland game and Hawaii played on a Saturday.

Dallas coming up big in the clutch in a prime time game?

It's a shame this play didn't amount to more than a footnote, because this was straight out of a damn movie.
I think Cris Collinsworth had multiple orgasms breaking down the replay and, frankly, I don't blame him one bit.

If only Killebrew had been in a little better position to fall on it. The Steelers needed someone to do something spectacular to save them. Roberts did it, but the ball landed right where Prescott could get to it first. That would have been the most Cowboys' choke job ever if they lost that game. They were by far the better team all night. The Steelers' 3-0 start wasn't entirely a mirage, but this team has some massive flaws and far too many injuries at key positions. The offensive line is a mess with three players out for the season. The defense was down to its fourth option at right outside linebacker and he was useless. The pass rush disappeared when Herbig got hurt. There was just no one to make the Cowboys pay for all the attention they were giving Watt. More importantly, they were no longer making Prescott pay for holding the ball. That game-winning touchdown pass took a long time to develop, but Prescott had all the time he could possibly want. That defense has been thoroughly exposed the last two weeks. This team is going nowhere.

Reporter: Your team captain was just arrested on strangulation and drug charges so I guess he's got a problem for this week's game.

Coach: Yes, he's got a shoulder problem. But he'll be good to go next week.

I remember back in the 70s and 80s, there were times the Cowboys would go on the road, and the home team would opt to play in their whites so the Cowboys had to wear their navy blues. The thinking was that would give the home team an advantage, because Dallas didn't want to play in the dark unis.

Even my Cowboys-hating, 10-year-old self remembers hearing that and thinking, "Well, this game is completely over. They're in your fucking heads, idiot."

The Texans were going to call a TO after each of the plays if the clock was running (assuming the Bills didn’t get a 1st down) and they would have had the chance for only 1 play after the punt. So calling 3 running plays for the Bills helps because 1) the Texans would have burned their timeouts and couldn’t call one after the punt meaning the post-punt play would have had to have gone out of bounds and 2) there would have been more room for the punter assuming the runs gained any yards. The downside of course was that you are basically conceding going to OT.

To me, the risk wasn’t worth the reward at the time because the Bills needed to go so far. But once the first play was incomplete, the play calls didn’t matter as Texans had the ability to call TO after 2nd and 3rd downs and still call one after a post-punt play. That’s why you have to run it on first down.

I remember this as well, most notably that the Redskins would do this annually. Took me a while to figure out as a kid why the Cowboys wore white at home when almost all other teams, including mine, wore dark jerseys.
